Off-Site Immunization Clinics: Vaccine Carrier Surpasses Expectations!

Off-site Immunization Clinic Solution: Keep Vaccines in Temperature Range
TempArmour Vaccine Carrier - on wheelsThe TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier stayed in temperature range for a total of 2.5 days when opened every 5 minutes over a 10 hour period! See the Test Results below!

Ever wonder how long your cooler will stay in range at your off-site Immunization Clinic? This is a question that we are often asked about the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier.

The Temparmour® Vaccine Carrier is a Qualified Container and Packout that has been lab accredited to maintain its temperature within 2-8 °C (36-46 °F) for 72 hours; but

What happens if refrigerated vaccines are not just being stored or transported in a closed carrier; but the carrier is being opened and closed over a period of time?

Based on testing and feedback from nurses and practitioners who have used the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier for off-site immunization clinics, we were confident that the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier performed effectively when opened and closed throughout off-site clinics. However, until recently there had not been any performance testing that specifically simulates the conditions and how the Carrier is used throughout the day of a typical off-site Immunization Clinic.

We decided to conduct further in-house testing specifically to demonstrate the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier’s exceptional performance in an off-site Clinic scenario!

With the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier, you can be confident that your refrigerated vaccines are safely stored throughout your Immunization Clinics from beginning to end.

Design of the Off-Site Immunization Clinic Simulation Test
The test was designed using input provided by a number of Nurse Practitioners who regularly conduct off-site Immunization Clinics. They provided detailed information about how refrigerated vaccines are managed on a typical day of an off-site Clinic, from the moment the vaccines are moved from the vaccine refrigerator to a cooler, to when they are returned to the refrigerator at the end of the day. This included consideration of the transportation times and ambient temperatures while transporting vaccines to the offsite clinic; estimates of how often the carrier would be opened to retrieve vaccines; to how long before the vaccines are once again returned safely to a vaccine refrigerator.

It was decided that the test would last 10 hours to far exceed the length of a typical Vaccination Clinic as a worse-case scenario. During that time, the carrier was opened every 5 minutes and an empty box was removed from the carrier, opened and closed, then returned to the carrier that was also then closed (to reasonably emulate how vaccines are retrieved at an actual clinic). The ambient temperature was maintained at 24 °C.

The temperature during the test was monitored using a certified data logger calibrated to ISO 17025 as well as a backup temperature monitoring device.

RESULTS:

As shown in the graph, the temperature within the TempArmour® Vaccine Carrier stayed in the critical temperature range of 2-8 °C (36-46 °F) throughout the 10 hour test while the Carrier was opened every 5 minutes. In addition, the temperature remained in range for an additional 50 hours after the Carrier was closed for the last time. This amounts to a total of 60 hours (or 2.5 days) in temperature range.

So…
